How FreeGM values work
FreeGM's trade values are learned from real trades, not from expert rankings or polls. Here's what goes into a number, and how it changes for your league.
Dynasty values come from real trades
Every day FreeGM reads trades from thousands of real dynasty fantasy leagues. Each trade is treated as roughly fair, since two managers agreed to it. The value engine then finds the value for every player and draft pick that best balances all of those trades at once.
- Recent trades count more. A trade's weight halves about every 60 days, so values follow the market as it moves.
- Rookie drafts count too. Where a rookie went in real rookie drafts is a price, like a trade for that draft pick.
- One odd trade can't move a player for long. Very lopsided trades, and leagues or managers that make a lot of them, are left out. A player's trend leans toward similar players until enough trades show a real move.
- Dynasty values use trades only. No projections and no expert opinion.
Packages: one star beats two halves
Two players worth 5,000 each don't add up to one worth 10,000. A side of a trade is worth (Σ value1.2)1/1.2. The 1.2 isn't a guess: it's fit on the same real trades, so it's what managers actually pay to consolidate.
Your league's settings
Superflex or 1QB, PPR, tight end premium and points per passing touchdown all change what players are worth. FreeGM learns how much each setting moves each position from trades made in leagues with those settings, then applies that to your format. Sync a league and the settings are matched for you.
Redraft values
Redraft values care about this season only. They blend Sleeper's rest-of-season projections, scored with your league's settings, with real redraft trades, leaning on projections (at least 55%) where trades are few. Values are spaced by projected points over a waiver-wire replacement, so a true stud is worth much more than two fringe starters.
Draft picks and injuries
Future picks are valued by round and, once the standings make it clear, as early, mid or late. Injuries discount redraft values a lot and dynasty values only a little, since a dynasty team cares about the years ahead.
Checking ourselves
Every day the engine is tested on the last two weeks of trades it hasn't seen, to measure how close its values come to the trades managers really made. Changes to the math only go live when they make that test better.
Values are estimates
Values describe the trade market, not the future. Use them as one input alongside your own read of your league.
FAQ
Is FreeGM free?
Yes. Every tool is free and there's no account to make.
Which fantasy platforms work?
League Sync, Scout and the Draft Room work with Sleeper by username. League Sync also reads ESPN leagues by league ID, including private leagues if you paste your ESPN cookies.
Do you store my league?
No. Sleeper leagues are read straight from Sleeper by your browser. ESPN leagues pass through our server only to get around ESPN's browser block, and nothing about them is saved. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How often do values update?
Every morning. The daily job reads new trades, refits every value and updates projections, injuries and news. The stamp next to the format settings says when values were last updated.
Why are your values different from other sites?
Most trade value sites are built from expert rankings or crowd voting. FreeGM's dynasty values come only from what managers actually traded, so they move with the real market, including when that disagrees with the experts.
Can FreeGM send a trade or a draft pick to my league?
No. Sleeper and ESPN don't let outside sites make moves in your league. FreeGM builds the trade and opens your app so you can send it there.
Does Pick a Side change the values?
Not yet. Picks are saved and shown as a crowd split, and we compare them with the values to check accuracy.
I found a bug or have an idea. Where do I send it?
Use the feedback form or email [email protected]. Bug reports with a screenshot and the page you were on help the most.
